Milnerton Canoe Club is proud to host the BREEDE RIVER MARATHON 2010 incorporating the WCCU K2 River Champs.
“The annual K2 (doubles) Breede River Canoe Marathon will be held on 70 km of the Breede River between the towns of Robertson and Swellendam, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September, 2010 and it promises to be as popular as the 2009 incorporating the same route. K1’s are also welcome.
The event is in its 43rd year and is the biggest river marathon in the Western Cape. It never fails to impress with all the top paddler combinations from around the country vying for the prestigious BREEDE title. They will be looking forward to another Breede Classic as they take on not only the 70 km of it, but also the many obstacles they will have to overcome. These in chronological order are (Day 1), the Sliding Weir and the low level bridge at Goudmyn, Secunda Weir, the low-level bridge before Bonnivale as well as , (on day 2 ) the Blue Rock Rapid and Waterfall Rapid. Competitors and spectators alike will be treated to an all-consuming battle on the water, in all the classes to be raced, at the end of which, that deep understanding of what it means to paddle so, will be shared with the telling and re-telling of the war stories of both days racing. Racing classes also include Mixed Doubles, Husband/Wife, Parent/Child and Siblings making competition even more exciting.

ROUTE
By all accounts the new day 2 route proved very successful and the finish venue at Kambati was equally enjoyable for the seconds and paddlers and based on the paddlers poll last year we are keeping it the same as 2009 by ending Day1 and starting day 2 at Riggton River Farm and finishing Day 2 at Kambati River Resort.

RIGGTON RIVER FARM
This is the finish of day 1 and the start of day 2. There are great camping facilities here for those wanting to be close to all the action. Pierre, the owner, has built a new ladies ablution block, extended the men’s ablutions and built a multi function structure to act as the bar and food mess. There will be a R10 levy per vehicle except for those who are camping.
KAMBATI RIVER RESORT
This is the venue for the end of day 2. The finish line will be clearly marked this year to avoid any confusion. The prize giving will take place under the Bedouin tent between the bar and hall. There plenty of parking and a great venue for the kids.
