K2 BREEDE RIVER CANOE MARATHON 2011

GENERAL RULES AND INFORMATION:

ENTRY FEE:

The Entry fee is R390.00 per paddle for Senior and R300.00 per paddle for Junior.
There is a R10 car fee at the finish of each day (levied by farmers unless you have booked camping here).    

LATE ENTRIES:

Entries close on Wednesday, 24th August 2011.
Late entries will be accepted up till 20h00 on Wednesday 31st August 2011 at an extra cost of R100.00 per paddle.
No seeding will be allocated to paddlers whose entries are received after 24th August 2011.ie start in the last batch.

    NB: BOTH CANOE NUMBERS TO BE WRITTEN IN THE REFERENCE BLOCKS
  3. Cheques made out to Milnerton Canoe Club and must be accompany by your entry form. No post dated cheques or telephonic entries can be accepted

ENTRY QUALIFICATION:

Membership Status:
Each entrant must be a registered, paid up member of an affiliated canoe club & CSA.

Proficiency Rating:
The race is open to ‘AR’ and ‘BR’ rated paddlers.
(AR = Qualified to paddle A grade rivers.  BR = Qualified to paddle B grade rivers.  CR = Qualified to paddle C grade rivers.  FW = Flat Water only)

A paddler with a ‘CR’ or ‘FW’ rating will only be considered for acceptance if paddling in a K2 with an ‘AR’ rated partner.

Junior under 15:
May not participate in a K1.
To participate in a K2 if not ‘AR’ Rated must have an adult partner who is ‘AR’ rated.

Juniors over 15:
If two juniors wish to paddle together in a K2, both must be ‘AR’ rated.

Any queries with regard to these rules must be directed to the paddler’s own Canoe Union, the race organisers will not be replying to any queries with regard to this qualifying rule.

RULES:

  1. CSA marathon rules apply.
  2. Kayak Jackets are compulsory.
  3. Sufficient buoyancy in front of (min 10 liters) and behind (min 10 liters) the cockpit is compulsory.
  4. No outside assistance unless in an emergency.
  5. Only paddles, not canoes, may be replaced.
  6. Appeals have to be lodged within one hour of paddlers finish & in writing, together with a fee of R50.00 (refundable if successful).
  7. Officials reserve the right to take disciplinary steps at any time during the race.
  8. Starting format: Batches +/- 50 in a batch. Elapsed time starts, will be applied on Day 2
  9. It is the paddlers responsibility to know the dangers on the river and have sufficient skills to manage these dangers safely

SEEDING:

Seeding will be done according to the latest entry requirement ruling of CSA. All paddlers have to enter before 12h00 on Monday 25th August 2010 to be considered for a seeding. Seeding will be displayed on the web site from 31st August 2011 and at the start area on Day 1. If you have any queries please contact Richard Kohler before 3rd September 2011 (083 2996569).


THERE WILL BE NO RACE REGISTRATION. CHECK IN TO BATCHES ON SATURDAY. MERCHANDISE CAN BE COLLECTED AT THE END OF DAY 1

Saturday 3rd September – 10h00: 
Robertson (McGregor Bridge) to Bonnievale (Riggton River Farm) (37km)

Sunday 4th September – 09h00:
Bonnievale (Riggton River Farm) to Kambati River Resort (33.5km)

THE FINISH AND PRIZE GIVING:

The finish will be at “Kambati River Resort” near Swellendam.
