“The annual K2 (doubles) Breede River Canoe Marathon will be held on 75 km of the Breede River between the towns of Robertson and Swellendam, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September, 2009 and the water forecasts indicate another year of quality water levels. K1’s are also welcome." The event is in its 42nd year and is the biggest river marathon in the Western Cape. It never fails to impress with all the top paddler combinations from around the country vying for the prestigious title. They will be looking forward to another Breede Classic as they take on not only the 75 km of it, but also the many obstacles they will have to overcome. These in chronological order are (Day 1), the Sliding Weir and the low level bridge at Goudmyn, Secunda Weir, the low-level bridge before Bonnivale as well as , (on day 2 ) the Waterfall Rapid, and the Swellendam Weir. Competitors and spectators alike will be treated to an all-consuming battle on the water, in all the classes to be raced, at the end of which, that deep understanding of what it means to paddle so, will be shared with the telling and re-telling of the war stories of both days racing. Racing classes also include Mixed Doubles, Husband/Wife, Parent/Child and Siblings making competition even more exciting.
